The use of AI in creating interactive and immersive trading card experiences

Traditional trading card experiences have been limited to physical cards and static displays. Card shows, in our opinion, will always have a place in #thehobby. Card shops are a staple in the industry and still a top destination to try and finalize a set, increase your collection, or ship cards in bulk for a decreased price per card.

The focus of the newsletter today is how AI can create an interactive and immersive experience. The days of waiting and searching to find a prized Frank Thomas or Michael Jordan card, completing a 1991 Upper deck collection, or knowing the rarest card from 2022 releases is coming to an end. Collectors will be able to quickly aggregate listings in search of that hard to find card variation. If you are a fan of collecting card variations now, (autographed, parallels, inserts, printing plates) then the world of augmented reality and power of AI to create interactive trading cards will be a welcome sight.

The use of AI in creating interactive and immersive trading card experiences

  • AI can be utilized to make the process of card grading interactive. Companies are able to show the process in detail, outline imperfections that were found, and ensure customers clearly understand why they received the grade they did all in a digital environment.

  • Imagine the ability to have a conversation with Babe Ruth and ask him about his 54 homeruns in 1920. AI can be utilized to create virtual and augmented reality experiences that can bring trading cards to life.

  • Artificial intelligence allows a collector to look in to the future. During an auction, AI could assist a collector in determining future prices and models could be run about the athletes career, card rarity, and sport trends to predict values of that card for years to come.

The benefits of interactive and immersive trading card experiences

Flygrade aims to improve the market attractiveness of trading card grading. What that means is finding barriers to entry, such as time and cost, and removing those for customers. Another way to improve market attractiveness is through interactive and immersive experiences. Virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus, allow us to deep dive in to mixed reality. Not only could we have a conversation with Babe Ruth, but a user could be transported to the field on the exact day he hit his 60th homerun in 1927. Now, imagine a 1/1 edition of a card that allowed someone to do that - not only is the industry using AI to bring more people in to #thehobby, but the value and collectability of that card could potentially see an increase.

Rounding Third and Heading Home

Interactive and immersive experiences open up a world of possibilities in the trading card industry. Here is a thought - imagine the combination of Cameo (cameo.com) and a trading card. 10 cards are generated, signed, and come with a customized message to the seller from the athlete. If you know anyone at Cameo looking for some creative ideas for 2023, be sure to send them our way!
